Rowlet (yosakoi style)

Today's art is a tribute to the Yosakoi troupe from Rennes city in France. I am a part of this group, the Fukuroutachi!
The troup's totem animal is the owl (fukurou 梟), I thought it was nice to choose Rowlet as a mascot. We also find the word fukurou in the Japanese name of Brindibou, Mokurou モクロー (moku (wood) + fukurou (owl)).
I wanted to integrate an art with the theme of yosakoi よさこい, an important element of Japanese culture. Yosakoi is a dance coming from Kōchi prefecture, south of the island of Shikoku. Born in 1954, this dance combines a traditional style with more modern movements and an energetic rhythm. Yosakoi is very popular in Japan today and there are over two hundred yosakoi festivals every year throughout Japan.
In France, the yosakoi has already existed for a few years and is starting to become well known. Many large French cities already have their troupe, such as Paris (Hinodemai), Lyon (Komainu), Nantes (Odoritsuru), Bordeaux (Koidoukai)… and Rennes (Fukuroutachi)! There is even a federation that brings together all the troops of France, the French Federation of Yosakoi (or FYF).
