Umbreon (Tsukimi)

Designed as a complementary illustration to Espeon, we have today Umbreon (ブラッキ), on the dark side of the force!
Umbreon is partly inspired by the Tsukimi 月見 japanese festival, but also by the myth of the Jade Rabbit! Tsukimi 月見 literally means to look at the moon (we find the kanji 月 (tsuki, "the moon") and 見 (mi, from miru, "to look"). Less famous than Hanami in spring, Tsukimi takes place in autumn and we usually cook round mochi (to remind the moon) or in the shape of white rabbits!
The myth of the Jade Rabbit comes to us from China. It is said that this special all-white rabbit came from the Moon.. some even think that some rabbits still live on the Moon. The Jade Rabbit is also the name given to the dark shape on the visible side of the moon, which is said to have the shape of a giant rabbit.
About the kimono, I used the design from Princess Kaguya's tale, a reference that was pushed further with the little Kaguya shown inside the bamboo.. Yet another reference to the moon haha!
In short, you have understood that in popular culture, the moon and the rabbit are closely linked. Noctali looks a lot like a rabbit indeed, the inspirations on its design are clear!
